Running Leopard on my MPB when in hte middle of loading a web page in Firefox everything went a bit weird.

The whole machine slowed to a crawl and half the keyboard stopped working, as did the application switcher via the tab key. The dock has also gone awol.

I had to force a restart as all other methods final to work. But three restarts later I still have no dock, spaces has now stopped working too.
Any ideas short of a reinstall?

Just done an archive and install. No change. Don't really want to do a full reinstall but it looks like I'm going to have to!

Something seems to have screwed up the system but good!

If you've done an Archive and Install, and your issue persists, then you have a corrupt/damaged preference file. Your problem continues even after installing a new OS because the Archive and Install preserves all your user preferences.

Try creating a new user and logging in as that user. Does the problem persist?
You might be able to track down which preferences are giving you grief and remove or replace them in your original account. Or simply keep using the new account, move all your documents over, and erase the problematic user account.

Try trashing the Dock preferences.

Try another user account.

The Dock preferences are the Spaces preferences. Spaces is a feature of the Dock.

oh blast! Now drag and drop seems to have stopped working. Can't drag a file to the dock to launch app, or drag file from one location to another.

Finder prefs?
