On a clean install of 10.5, the sound output level preferences keep getting reset to the default "middle" setting after each reboot. Has anyone noticed this behavior and or found a fix?

I've done all the requisite pre-check items; fixed permissions, trashed user prefs, used Onyx to clear cache etc.

Maybe this is a bug that the ".2" updater will address, but so far I'm at a loss for what's causing it.

This has been happening to me as well. No matter where I set that volume slider, upon a cold boot or resuming from sleep mode, it's back to the middle again. It's pretty frustrating if you ask me. Specs of my machine are in my sig.

I found an application called Psst to be helpful with Tiger for keeping the volume level set the way I like it. I have no idea whether it works with Leopard, however.

I'm also having a similar problem with my display my MBP resetting my brightness settings to "automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes." I want that OFF but it keeps changing it to ON. WTF?

I'm surprised it remembers the wallpaper I've chosen. :-/

So the word from Apple tech support is that this "sound reset" is actually new behavior programmed into the OS. According to "product specialists" this was setup to prevent overloading speakers. Hmm... I think that's a polictially correct way of saying, "umm...we don't know why it's doing this but we're working on it...".

Also worth noting: During the fix permissions operation I get multiple errors that say, "Warning, SUID (xxx file) has been modified and will not be repaired". This too is apparently a known issue and they are working on it.

So maybe with the ".2" update these non-critical but annoying bugs will get addressed.
