I've plugged in an external hard drive into my mac thats been working fine for the last few days. But now it doesn't appear in the desktop or the finder when I plug it in but it DOES appear in Disk Utility. Unfortunately, my impatience led me to unplug it once before I looked at Disk Utility and i got the Device Removal error message. I'm afraid i might of erased the drive and i'm just looking for a solution so it works properly again with the Mac.

What Mac are you using? What OS? What make/manufacturer is the drive? How does it connect to the computer? Did the problem occur after you unplugged it impatiently or before?

In DiskUtility try this: select the ExtHD and run Repair, found in the right lower corner of the window.
