Leopard finder focusing issues

Since I upgraded to Leopard, i've been experiencing a very strange phenomena. When I open the applications folder in finder and then double click an application to start it, the application windows goes behind the finder window. In short: Application windows are not focusing correctly, any ideas?

Just to rule out click- related issues, does this happen if you select the app by clicking once and then choosing File > Open (cmd-O)?
