Guys,

I've just set up Time Machine on my MacBook Pro. So far it's the cat's meow ...

During the week I commute to a different city ... I don't plan to take this drive with me. Will Time Machine "catch up" when I return home on the weekend and plug the drive back in? How does this work? How does Time Machine deal with offline-states?

It will catch up when you plug that drive back in. There is absolutely no need to keep the backup drive attached all the time. That would be kind of really annoying with a notebook.

I use it like this - I leave my time machine drive at work, and take my PB home - so it backs up changes on the 3-4 days I am in the office, and serves as an offsite backup.
