By mistake I chose a huge file as my desktop picture but when I went back to change it System Preferences repeatedly quit when I got to the desktop picture window. I finally managed to change it theoretically by clicking on one of the system images before Sys Prefs quit but the old, huge picture is still there. I have restarted several times, updated my system software, corrected permissions and the picture is still there. I even moved the image to another location but no luck.

What preference file do I trash to get rid of this thing? What else will get trashed at the same time? I looked through my preference files but I couldn't pick out which one would definitely be it so before I cause more mayhem I thought I'd ask you guys.

I don't know which preference file you can trash, but try opening iPhoto and choose a normal picture and go to Share > Desktop to set the desktop picture. This is iPhoto 6 so the location might have changed in the newest version but the option is still there.

In a pinch, you could also open Safari and right click on an image you find to "Use Image as Desktop Picture."

thank you! that Safari thing did it, first try. I never actually noticed that option was in the contextual menu there.

I was getting sick of that picture.
