I have one of the first-generation 12-inch aluminum PBs -- typing on it now, in fact. It will be 5 years old next week. It fits the specs for Leopard -- barely.

Has anyone put Leopard on this computer? It's maxed out on RAM at 640 MBs, so I can't increase that any. And the processor speed is the bare minimum 867.

I just want to know if it's worth doing, or if it will slow this puppy down unbearably. I've had Leopard for a while now, but just havent' gotten around to installing it either on this or my 6-month-old iMac. But I'm getting there...

I haven't done it. But seeing how Leopard really uses lots of RAM I can't imagine a 640 MB system with just a 867 MHz G4 will be any fun.

I concur. Leopard is very RAM-hungry. I have such a Powerbook and I still have it under Panther. It runs happily so.

There is a reason why every new Apple machine has at least 1 GB of RAM.

I have a 1st generation 12" PB with Leopard installed. I put a 1GB stick of ram in the slot and it worked just fine. The problem is the video chip does not support core image. I find Leopard a little sluggish on this machine. OTOH Leopard runs great on my 15" 1.5ghz PB with 2GB of ram. The video on the 15" does support core image. I am considering going back to Tiger on the 12".
