I'm about to update my Mac Powerbook G4 to Leopard, and am in the process of backing up my applications. All my other files are backed up including my library.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements v 4 for the Mac, and I can't find the original DMG file (and the serial number). So, I'm simply copying all the .app files to my backup drive.

I know I can install leopard with a "keep all my settings", but I'd rather do a fresh install.

Can I just copy the .app files from the applications folder to a backup folder and then copy them back again when I install leopard?

thanks

I think you want an 'archive and install'. Frankly though, I wouldn't bother unless you have some issue with your current install.

as I say I'd really like to do a fresh install rather than an archive and install.

The one main problem I have with my G4 powerbook is that when I restart the computer it doesn't automatically log on to my wireless network (it used to do this just fine), so I'd like to clean install the whole lot.

An archive and install is a fresh install, and then copying your apps and settings over.

thanks for that - I didn't realise that's what an archive and install did. I'll do an archive and install in that case.
