I seem to be having difficulties with the update. I first noticed my Dock was frozen and desktop unresponsive. I forced quit finder and it happened again. I restarted and the dock reacted slowly. Now I am experiencing problems traversing through programs and having the menu's sticking when going between programs. Everything seems slower. I ran permissions but everything still seems slow. Although I am technically not crashing, I think I'm going to revert to 10.5.1.

I just told Software Update to go for it. The machine restarted twice and viola! It fixed a problem I was having with connecting to SMB shares too, so I'm really happy.

I've restarted. But I'm still having problems switching applications. InDesign is being especially difficult as well as Mail.

I'm having some pretty serious issues too. Installation seemed to go okay, but upon restart it all went downhill. First restart hung at the Apple logo. Second restart let me login, but the system was unresponsive. Third time it let me login, but many application icons in the dock were generic app icons, and files were folders. Safe boot doesn't work any better.

Noticed in the System log that SystemUIServer and Launch Services were having issues. My guess is it's something 3rd party that got broken by 10.5.2, but I've yet to find the exact cause.
Thinking of buying a new Mac? My free ebook might help.

The first reboot takes a while at the gray Apple logo and automatically reboots again. It is still installing the update at that stage. If you forced rebooted it, then you interrupted the install. You should download the combo updater and install again.

I always make sure to disconnect any external drives and iPods, too. Always makes things go a little smoother.

Everything seemed fine. However, noticed that the translucent volume indicators weren't showing up on the screen, so I rebooted. Then the volume icon on the menu bar was gone and there's "No output devices found" in the Sound panel of System Preferences. I've rebooted yet again, and still don't have any sound.

I was able to fix my problem by deleting a couple of audio preferences in the the ~Library/Preferences folder and rebooting.

My MacBook updated to 10.5.2 after a pair of reboots with no issues.

My G5 iMac hanged at some point and was stuck on "writing log file" or somesuch. I held my breath and forced a reboot (by holding in the power button). The G5 then rebooted twice and has been fine since.

Worst Leopard behavior, which is still not fixed: Every bootup or login requires passwords for "dotmacsyncclient" and some other Keychain item. I was never bothered for these in Tiger or earlier.

Have you tried repairing your keychain?

I had the same exact issue with my MacBook..and everything seems fine...

Would running the combo installer do anything?

I suggest you consult the makers of CandyBar, since they're probably the ones you've allowed to cause your problems.

Yes, especially since it is a GUI enhancement tool...

My curse of bad updates continues.
But this time, after I ran the 10.5.2 combo updater on my iMac G5 and let 2 automatic reboots occur (fine), on the second reboot, it went to the Apple logo and grayish background, but then locked up! And I can't get past this screen! How do I know? Because the lights on my keyboard and mouse light up for 10 seconds, then go off and stay off, and then 25 seconds later, the fan whirls up.

According to a poster on MacRumors (on like post 830 or something crazy in their 10.5.2 thread...!), apparently my boot cache got damaged, or something like that.

I've tried resetting the Open Firmware, that didn't work.

[1] How do I boot up my Mac now? (needs to be addressed pretty soon...)
[2] How could my boot files just get damaged?
[3] Why would Apple keep claiming that there would be "no problems" if this was gonna happen?

Edit: News: It took another 5 "let's see if it works" manual startups to see if I could get past this screen... still not sure if I'm clear, I've heard of people's Finders doing weird things...!

What did you preferences did you delete, because after updating, I have no audio either. In fact, I am unable to play ANY of my audio files in iTunes. The problem is not just the lack of audio, the bar doesn't move at all. This update seems to have really screwed some things up big time.

After resetting the Pram the sound is back to normal. Perhaps this will help someone else who may be having the same problem.

WHen you did the erase and install, did you perform a migration after the installation? (via the Migration Assistant?)

Did you installed the graphic driver updates which are only available after updating to 10.5.2?

On a 15" C2D Macbook pro and the other a iMac 24" c2d. Worked flawlessly for both.

I am tickled about having my folders back on the dock, and removing the icon from the 'top most' application being the icon of the folder. My wife lamented that she kept hitting the Applications folder thinking she was starting the address book.

Nope. I deleted everything. update to 10.5.2 and the graphic one too. Still happens. I'm beginning to think that it's not compatible to the powerbook g4 12"... I did the same with my iMac and everythings is great!

My Lacie d2 500 gig firewire drive now causes Finder to crash on my iMac G4. My Maxtor 300 doesn't, nor does my Lacie DVD DL burner, both firewires too. All work fine on my iBook G4. But on the iMac, connect the d2 and crash Finder, disconnect and up comes Finder. Weird. Anybody else here have a similar problem? Check out this thread from another board.

Oh for love or hate, in 10.5.1 I only suffered the trash-bug & now in 10.5.2 I seem to have a Sound-bug. This started after the graphics update which I installed after the 10.5.2 & iLife updates, my leopard install is a clean install just to note.
What happens is that on startup sound is there, but if I shutdown my Mac has I did on Wednesday then restart it several hours later sound is muted! The Sound-bezel shows volume to the max but with a ∅ underneath it & in system pref's the select sound output is greyed-out?
The only way of getting it back is to delete com.apple.soundpref.plist in User>Library>Preferences.
Even running DU sees the missconfigured files & repairs them but after restart it's still the same I have to do it manually.

Ok my sound issues are fine, now how I fixed it was that I found if I muted sound this would start causing the problems if & when I shut down my Mac.
So now I just set sound level to the lowest & everything is alright & by the way the startup sound isn't has loud has it was in Panther or Tiger.

I have three LaCie d2 drives hooked up to my MacBook running 10.5.2. They're daisy-chained through an MHLabs Firewire audio interface, and two of them are paired to form a mirrored RAID.

No problems.

After resetting my Pram, my sound was back to normal. Unfortunately, the fix was short lived. After restarting my PowerBook this morning I had no sound again. I've checked and I do not have a com.apple.soundpref.plist anywhere on my Mac. Anybody have any other suggestions?

I'm not sure for you, since I've never owned a "laptop, notebook" but if looking in User>Library>Preferences
it should be between Softwareupdate.plist & Speechprefs.plist .
Anyway this plist list has todo with Front-row if you installed it.
There was some help on Apple-boards & elsewhere about checking your sound input making sure it's checked to digital & that if the indicator for the jack is on to use a tooth-pic to try to lightly push it inside the jack to turn it off.

I found that 10.5.2 has broken Civ IV on my MacBook. I suspect the video driver for the X3100.

Posted in the Gaming forum, too.
