I tried searching the forums but I have not been able to find anything regarding this subject. Does anyone know if its possible to change what the Authentication Window displays? When I setup my MBP I entered my full name into the account information. Now when I lock the laptop it displays it instead of my user name. I would prefer it to display my user name. If I go into preferences/users it does not show my user name anywhere. Just the full name. Do I need to delete my account and create a new one?

Thanks
Brian

There are two forms of user names in OS X: Your long user name and your short user name. You can use your short name instead of your long one, if that's what you mean by your user name. Just use your short name once, and in the future administrator dialog boxes will show it instead of your long name. Or, if you don't like either name, you can create another administrator account with a different short and long name and use that instead. It's actually a better idea from a security standpoint to have your administrator account be different from your regularly used account.

Thanks for your ideas! What I ended up doing was changing the "Name" in the system preferences.

I forgot to mention that you can change the long name. Glad you found it.
