Every time I type command-M to check mail in Eudora 6.2.4, I hear a system beep. This is not coming from Eudora, as I have alerts turned off. I thought it might be a service conflict and have tried Service Scrubber, but to no avail (spell catcher 10.2.3 has a shortcut command-shift-M for modify selection, but that's all I can find).

Does anyone have any ideas? Services are a great idea in MacOS X, but how the system deals with conflicts leaves a lot to be desired!

This has nothing to do with Services as command-m is the default shortcut for minimising windows in (what should be) every application in OS X. If Eudora is hijacking the command for something else, then Eudora is doing something very, very stupid. To make life easier on yourself, I would change the shortcut in Eudora to something that isn't going to conflict with a system wide default, e.g. command-shift-m if you need something close (use System Preferences>Keyboard & MOuse>Keyboard Shortcuts).

I hear the system beep even if I pull the menu down and choose the command with a mouse, so surely it's not a command-key conflict?

BTW, you can change the check mail command to shift-command-N, as in Mail, but I still hear the beep. Any other ideas?

OK, when you press the key combo, which menu highlights in the menubar?

File (I've since switched back to command-M). I also hear the system beep when I type command-M.
