forgive me if this the wrong place in the forums for this question. wasn't sure what category it fell into.
so i gave an old ibook to a family member a while back and they are not mac savy so i don't think they could have done what i'm about to lay fourth......it seems recently that the name of the hard drive icon which was formerly 'Macintosh HD'
has mysteriously changed names to 'you are good'. this seems suspicious to me. anyone have any thoughts on why and how this could of happened?
thanks for your insight.

They probably just changed it by accident. Maybe clicked it twice (not quick enough to open it though) then started typing. Nothing suspicious about it, unless it happens again.
However -- what version of the Mac OS is it running? There are some viruses out there for OS 9 and older. Not common though, but I've seen them before.

Someone playing around. It's a very common thing for people to do when they're goofing around on Macs.

thanks for the responses guys. it's running 10.3.9. I've had them change it back to 'macintosh hd' so we'll see if it happens again. thanks again.

In case you aren't aware, the name of the drive can be anything. The OS doesn't care what name it is.

Changing hard disk names like that is something that PC-ish people and kids are partial to. Once I noticed my visiting nephew had somehow renamed the internal hard drive of our iMac from "Macintosh HD" to "?" which is when I implemented controls on the guest user account.

My cat routinely changed the name of my Mac's hard drive to things like "lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ....." and "\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\...." and the like.
I really should talk to him about that.
And he really likes Exposé, Spaces and the Finder minimize window effects. Oh and also creating hundreds of new Safari windows.
He's even set the Safari home page to something really strange.

probably a mistake or on purpose. Can be done by mistake easily... have done it myself when using two computers using synergy to control both and have the mouse sitting in the other screen by mistake and start typing, but had re named a HD instead
