I have a friend who had an iMac with Mac OS X Leopard on it. Recently it has become very slow. This is especially true upon startup. Also someone installed AOL on it and I can't figure out how to uninstall it/remove it. If you can't already tell I don't deal with MACs on a daily basis so any help is appreciated.

Check to see if something (like AOL) is hogging the CPU. Go to the Applications folder and into the Utilities folder and open Activity Monitor. Click on the %CPU column to see which processes are hogging the CPU. If it's a user app, quite it or force quit it.

To get rid of most apps, simply drag them to the trash. That's it.

You don't mention which iMac, how much memory, etc., so there could be other issues involved with the slowness.

Sad ppl who know no better......

AOL software is a pile of "carp" and should carry a WARNING: "This software will stuff up your system, ruin your computer, damage your personal relationships and drive you to drink, suicide and beyond...."

There's something beyond suicide?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
