hp 3052 wont print from osx, but will from xp in parallels. if i re-boot from external drive, not "updated" with recent Apple updates, it prints.
have installed hpijs linux driver to no avail...can time machine "restore" or take me back to that particular system configuration, and leave the rest in tact? or, is there a simpler fix?

Try Oreo's advice first. I haven't tried that new app.

If that doesn't work, read through the link I provided.

Hey, I have a working system, and TM. But, I cannot follow your path for a new pstop. I cannot even see an "libexec". I know, this must be simple, but spotlight doesn't show it, and searching various libraries, sub-folders gives me nada.
can you help a little more so I can try replacing the pstop?
thanks again

Apple has released an updated version of the Security Patch. Make sure to install that first, then install the app I've linked to. Do not try to the other trick, it's probably unnecessary after the release of the two pieces of software.

Thanks for the input so far..I havn't downloaded airport printer fix app. I will have to travel to somewhere with internet speed for me to do that...I live far far away from "good" internet. But, I am not wireless printing. I am plugging in the printer via usb port. have tried a couple different drivers too.
newest security update installed, If I re-install leopard, I think it will work again, but would i have to re-install all my apps too? seems to me in os9 i could re-install a system, and it would leave all the apps in place. at this point, this seems to be a relatively simple potential solution, albeit not too progressive.
Please keep the advice comin!

Leopard has an option for an archive-install. It will preserve users, network settings, and applications.

My advice is to read the thread linked above.

Specifically, follow the instructions found here:

can confirm that replacing just the "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops" file fixed printing problem on my system. Here are the steps I used:

1. Double click /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
2. In the terminal window type "cupsdisable" (no quotes) and press return.
3. Make sure that you have the last Combo Updater file MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.2.dmg. Double click the file to open it and you should see MacOSCUpdCombo10.5.2.pkg.
4. Use Pacifist to open this package file.
5. In the search box at the top right if the window type "pstops" (no quotes) and it will find the file "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops".
6. Select this file so that it is highlighted and then click the "Install" button from the tool bar. You will need to authorize as the root/administrator. It will prompt you that there is a file of that name already existing so go ahead and over write the other file.
7. Once that is complete, go back to your terminal window and type "cupsenable" (no quotes) and press return.
8. Now try printing something.
It should go faster than archive-install.

Well, got to a high-speed location, downloaded pacifist and gave it a try. the following is the resultant "error" preventing the print from proceeding.

Printer busy (status:0xe00002e9)

feeling like I had not much to lose, I opened 10.5.1 with pacifist, and installed the pstop file from that, and the problem remains the same.

Hmmm. I am thinking a complete reinstall. what a PAIN.

any further advice would still be apreciated.

That's too bad.

You said you opened 10.5.1 with Pacifist. Did you try with 1-.5.2 ? I don't think it will make a difference, but it's a last thing you could try.

also, with pacifist, i did do the 10.5.2 first...since that produced no benefit, i went to .5.1
now down to 10.5 and got 2 pages printed, but now can only print with the kids computer. Hmmmm.

right clicking printer in prefs, has given me another page. maybe this is it? "reset printer" could be the final answer..
maybe.

Your problem seems to be different from others. If your printing works with some printers, but not with others, maybe something with your printer or printer driver is wrong.

Yes, especially since Apple has released an updated version of the Security Update which has solved my problems `officially'.

Could it be an issue of Parallels running in the background locking the printer USB port?

http://dd1.parallels.com/ul/j(D73hob...ng_Devices.pdf (PDF):

"Only one OS can use a device at a time. Follow the same steps to disconnect the device from the Windows virtual machine and give it back to Mac OS X."

did indeed get more printing done, but have yet to use parallels since the renewed functionality. will run parallels, and try mentioned process... still feeling pretty happy about the right click printer reset. much better than before!

Do you get printing problems only when Parallels is running?

I think the device limitation has been there all the while (with VMware as well) - either your VM or Mac gets the port.

couldn't print a thing today. Printed without trouble (almost) until now. sometimes, if i remove the usb cable, then re plug it back in, the machine will "connect" and print without a hitch. but today, couldn't make it do anything. reset printer, reinstalled foomatic instead of standard driver and still no dice.
is there another driver to try?
