got this exclamation thingie on the top of my taskbar...what does it mean?

It could be a third-party menu bar application notice. Click it. Does it give you a pop-up or drop-down with more information?

It appears to be Little Snitch. It seems someone downloaded a trial and the 3 hour trial period finished leaving that triangle to remind you to purchase the product.
