Some of my software is pretty old, so I use OS Classic as well as OSX on my powerbook. I have the font Century Gothic installed on my system, and it works fine in Microsoft Word, which I have running on OSX.
However, my Adobe Illustrator is version 9, so I have to run that on OS Classic. Century Gothic isn't in my font list in Illustrator. How do I use it in Illustrator / OS Classic?
Thanks.

OS X supports a bunch of different types of fonts that OS 9 doesn't. It's likely that the font you're using is one of those. You'll need to get a font in a format that OS 9 supports in order to use it in OS 9.
However, if the font is TrueType, you might be able to use something like this to convert it (TrueType fonts in OS 9 need to have some stuff in the resource fork, which obviously won't be present in TrueType fonts from other OSes):

A question, does Classic use the fonts in OS X's library, or does it have its own font library, and if so, is Century Gothic in it?

OS 9 had its own Fonts folder in the System Folder.

Classic uses the fonts found in the Fonts sub-folder of the OS 9 System Folder.

But you can still run an OS9 font management app like Type Manager or (god forbid) Suitcase. So you can keep your fonts where you like and activate them under classic as needed.

As has been stated, Classic can only use the fonts found in the System Folder > Fonts folder.
However...
Any fonts installed in Classic will also show up in OSX, creating the potential for duplicates and font conflicts. The suggestion about running Adobe Type Manager is a good one. Use it to toggle Classic fonts on/off as needed.

Or just resolve duplicates in Font Book in OS X - Classic doesn't care if they are inactivated in OS X, whereas OS X will not know that the fonts have been inactivated by ATM in Classic.
