If you can run Windows using Boot Camp, (and add this feature after installing OS) is there a method of running two (or more) versions of OS10 on the same iMac, without having to partition (ie erase) from scratch ?

Understand you should not go backwards, but would like to run 10.4.11 and 10.5.2 (3) without having to start all over.

This is so I can run Photoshop 7.

Similarly, is there a way to add a partition to an already stable OS system, without having to go back to square one, something like a dynamic partition, if that's the correct terminology.

Or amend the size of a partition already partitioned ? dynamic repartitioning ?

Something like VolumeWorks, but within Apple OS

You can do live or dynamic partitioning with Disk Utility in Leopard.

I see now, I was looking for a dynamic partition menu, you just click on the + below the large window.

Is it safe to do this, I presume it is otherwise it would not be offered as an option.

I knew I'd seen it somewhere.

Thanks for the pointer.

I wonder, once you've added the extra partition to load up 10.4.11, can you resize that partition to be just the minimum right size, freeing up disk space for the main partition.

Would the extra partition running 10.4.11 need any space to run 10.4.11, ie a swap file.

Yeah, it would require swap space, and the swap space would be on the same volume unless you manually moved it (which to me doesn't seem easy to do). But hey, drive space is cheap and plentiful.

Thanks, I'll stick to 10.4.11 on an external drive then, my iMac HD is pretty full anyway.

I'm going to change the title of the thread so it doesn't confuse people (like it did me) about what the actual point of the thread is. Interesting topic...
