ive had to boot from an old disk that only has the leopard install disk on one partition and a leopard itself installed on the other..
the trouble is that i needed to slim it down a bit so i deleted everything in the apps folder (and somehow my whole system preferences bit...
i need to get to the 'boot from' pref pane but it isnt there so can someone either upload one for me or perhaps point me in the direction of where i can find one...(i only need it for a one off use really as i wont be using this disk for long, but i cant boot into the partition thats got the install disk any other way?

chees for any help

You want to restart using a different partition's OS? Just hold down the option key at startup to get the OS selector.

That's very odd if holding in option isn't working. Any Mac that supports Leopard should have that in its firmware. Otherwise, you could try a physical Leopard disk.

Can't you copy it from your other partition?

Plug the Apple keyboard into the Mac. Plug your 3rd party keyboard into a different USB port. Or even one of the ports on the Apple keyboard, if your Mac doesn't have a free port.

Use the Option key on the Apple keyboard during boot, then switch to the new keyboard for all later work.

Under Tiger, it's in one of the installation packages. Here, specifically:

/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg

You can extract with Pacifist or unpkg.

The coffee spilled on both option keys, at separate ends of the keyboard? lol

If you are having problems with your hackintosh just come out and say so... no one cares.

Here is the StartupDisk preference pane: http://dznr.org/kqk4

It goes in HD/System/Library/PreferencePanes
