So, after moving into a house with a few friends, we made the decision to set up a killer in-house file sharing system. Being the only Mac user in the house, I've had a few hiccups getting everything working right, but most were pretty easily solvable. However, there's still one I just can't find an elegant solution for.
As I don't like people having the right to directly edit my file library, I made an upload folder with read and write permissions for people to send their stuff for me to sort and verify. However, for some reason, about half of the files a friend of mine just uploaded have a rather weird problem: I don't have, by default, write privileges.
Of course, I can go in and manually edit each file to allow me write permissions, but that's a pretty inelegant solution, I have to say. Anyone have any insights I might have missed? I'm willing to bet said problem will pop up again, and I'd like to be a bit better equipped to deal with it. Despite my high level of computer expertise, permissions and networking are not fortes of mine.
