After rebooting, my system prefs, specifically the Display Options prefs, are unlocking themselves and resetting the selected prefs. Occasionally my Network system pref is also unlocking itself but the settings are not changed. Any idea why and how to fix?

Oh, and I'm running OSX 10.5.2.

What do you mean unlocking and resetting? What exactly is changing without you changing it? Your screen resolution, number of colors, something else?

The lock in System Preferences is not the same as locking a file in Get Info. The lock in System Prefs is just to prevent someone from making changes via the System Prefs GUI. It's not locking some pref file somewhere, nor is it making any setting unchangeable via other means.

You can enable "Require password to unlock each System Preferences pane" in the Security pane which will keep everything locked always. Remember this just locks the GUI. Settings can still be changed via other means or be reset.

Specifically.... this is my problem. I have System Prefs>Security>General>"Require password to unlock each system pref pane" checked (selected). I've got a MacPro w/ a Cinema Display running 10.5.2.

About 75% of the time, after re-booting, my System Prefs>Display>Options selections will change themselves from what I have selected, ("Puts system to sleep and wakes it" and "Disable brightness buttons"), to ("Turns the display on and off").

Yesterday, before I selected "Require password to unlock each system pref pane", the display prefs pane would unlock itself and reset the Options prefs as stated above.

Today, after selecting "Require password to unlock each system pref pane" In the System Prefs>Security>General>prefs pane, the Display>Options windows stays locked, but the the Display Options selection changes as noted above.
