Hi,

I am just about to do a fresh install of Leopard and the only thing I remember is that the Network Preferences (incl. VPN setting and so forth) are not stored in the user folder. The problem is that I can't remember where it is, nor where I read it once (long time ago ) . Could someone please enlighten me!

thanks

An archive install is nearly the same as a clean install, but it also preserves network settings (if you check the correct box).

There are a couple other folders outside the user folder. One is hard drive/Library and the other is hard drive/System/Library. However, if you're doing a clean install, wouldn't it be better to have clean (new) network config files?

I just need the Network and VPN config files since I can not remember my VPN password for the university :/ The rest of the system (except my user folder) - I do not care much about ...

Archive install keeps too much stuff I want to get rid of - I sort of want have a clean system (no garbage left)

I don't know by heart where all this stuff is stored, but it's easy to find out. Change a setting and see where in the FS the changes get saved. That's your set of files to migrate.

fseventer is a nice little utility that shows you which files are getting modified at any given time.

well that was easy then ! /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist and /Library/Keychains/System.keychain

Well I guess I could keep the whole /Library folder to be on the save side

Thanks for your help!
