Space bar stopped working

I've got a friend who's got a Mac Mini running Tiger. She called today and told me that the space bar stopped working. It depresses normally but does not work on the screen. The problem doesn't appear to be application specific because it doesn't work when she's trying email or using Safari, etc. She's restarted the computer several times but that didn't fix anything.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps the space bar is physically broken … has she tried the keyboard on another computer? Or another keyboard?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
