Last night for some unfathomable reason, I deleted what may have been the original user name on my MacBook and changed the permissions (including apply to enclosed folders) more liberally. Now this morning on the multiple start up attempts since the changes the computer won't boot up on its own. However, when connecting to it as a target drive, all appears well.

Is the computer protecting it's content because I deleted the very first user name?

Some steps to fix my problem would be greatly appreciated.

The order in which a user was created doesn't generally matter. If you've changed the permissions on the system files, though, that might be causing problems. Try booting from the install disk and running Repair Permissions in Disk Utility there.

Thanks. The start-up disc is not here, but logical suggestion and I had forgotten about that feature. Will try that and get back.
