I have a G5 iMac, and the screen dims after a few minutes of being on.

I have unchecked the "reduce brightness" option under the energy saver preference pane.

Right before the screen dims, it gets brighter (I have it on maximum brightness, so it's getting brighter than that).

I am unable to get the brightness to go any higher once it dims without letting the display go to sleep. I have tried adjusting the brightness manually, but even at full brightness in the preference pane, it's still about half of what it was before it dimmed.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I tried an archive and install hoping that some bizarre preference was messed up, but it didn't seem to help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the machine running tiger? I used to get the same thing on my powerbook on tiger, and the solution turned out to me Leopard! Other than that, nothing that was suggested worked beyond logout, including setting the preference for halfdim via the command line.
