On my Macbook Pro Finder shows me the path in the bottom of the window. On my iMac it doesn't and for the life of me I can't find where to enable this feature. I've looked in Finder > Preferences and View > Show View Options with no luck.

...and there it is. Thanks for helping me the option right in front of my face. So many years as a Windows user and knowing where everything is... I'm still struggling a little with OSX.

Now Vista... OMG, I'm totally lost and have no interest in learning.

Here's a fun one: You can have the entire path display in the title bar at the top of the window if you like, & save the real estate Apple burns with it's Pathbar at the bottom.

In the terminal, enter:

defaults write com.apple.finder _FXShowPosixPathInTitle -bool YES

Hit return, then enter:

killall Finder

hit return again to re-launch the Finder.

It's not as functional as the pathbar -- i.e. you can't click on enclosing folders to go the them, or drag things onto them, but it's a compact way of displaying where you are in the hierarchy.

Edit: if you don't like it, just replace YES with NO to revert to the regular mode.
