Random idea for Spaces...

When you right-click a dock icon for an already-running application, "Show in this space" should be an option. That way you're not forced to change spaces to see something you're already using elsewhere.

Does anyone know if this functionality already exists in some form?

The functionality doesn't exist directly from within the Dock (although you may be able to AppleScript something...), but you can assign specific applications to Spaces. In Spaces' Preference Pane, click the "+" button to add an application to an assigned Space.

Did this halfway answer your question?

Oh yeah, that's one thing I'd miss.. My KDE3 desktop had that back when I had Linux full-time

Though i preferred the option where the taskbar would show only the apps fro mthe current Space, therefore it was never too cluttered.

Patrix.
