I have a group of C2D white iMacs that I have given the same Leopard 10.5.4 image. This means, naturally, that they all have the same problem. I am also using Deep Freeze (latest version, I checked). Sporadically, when the machine is called upon to restart (both manually and automatically), it kernel panics instead. This happens between a quarter and a third of the time. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling deep freeze. This doesn't work. Any thoughts? I'm grasping here.

Does the same image without Deep Freeze, or with Deep Freeze disabled have an issue? Do the panic logs specify a kernel extension or anything which may point to Deep Freeze?

I haven't had it while deep freeze is disabled, but it is a intermittent issue, so I shall see when I get back Friday.

On every machine that has logs of kernel panics, it mentions virusscan. I have uninstalled virusscan, and reinstalled an older version (it previously had the newest version, but failed to update definitions), as well as doing some of the latest updates for Mac OS (it is mostly ilife, but there is also a security update).

Has anyone else had problems with virusscan? I have to use it, or another antivirus program, as per university policy.

We use Virusscan and Deep Freeze latest versions + 10.5.4. None of our stations experience kernel panics except one. That one is different in that it has an Nvidia Quadro 4500 card (the others have Radeon cards.) It might just be a coincidence and could be something like a problematic hard drive.

Did you ever discover a cause?
