I was checking the Activity Monitor, and noticed SoftwareUpdateCheck running in the background, sucking up 10% of the CPU. Is this just some sort of Software Update scheduler? Should it really be running all the time? Or did I just happen to catch it when it came on?
Anyways, I simply killed the process and now all is fine.
I'm just wondering how this process activates and how long it stays activated. Cuz if it's going to suck up 10% of my CPU for hours on end, I'd rather find a way to set it so that it doesn't come on on its own. 10% can be significant time-wise if I'm encoding video for example.
In the meantime, I've unchecked the checkbox for automatic checking in the Software Update prefs.
