Well, the kids have discovered AIM.

Here's the problem: I turned on Parental Controls for iChat. They can see if their buddies are online/off-line but can't chat with them.

Here's what I did: In Parental Controls, I allowed access to the iChat app. In the Mail and Chat pane, I turned on "Limit iChat" and then entered several screen names. Then, we logged into their account and started iChat. iChat automatically logs into AIM and the buddy list displays all of the screen names entered. We can see the status change as buddies go on- and off-line but we can't initiate a chat session with any of them. The text chat button at the bottom of the iChat window is disabled and nearly every menu command is also greyed out. If I turn off "Limit iChat" in Parental Controls, they can chat with anyone on their buddy list. But that kinda defeats the purpose of the white-list of screen names.

This is on a newer MBP running 10.5.2. And yes, tonight I will update to 10.5.4 to see if that helps.

Any suggestions?

Try adding your kids AIM screenname to the list of approved screennames to chat with.

I don't have any experience with this, just a guess.

Thanks, m, I'll give that a try before the update to 10.5.4 and report back.
