I accidentially reset the printing system on a 10.4.11 machine and I'm trying to restore my printer list from a recent system backup.

The following files and folders were copied over:

all printing-related prefs ~/Library/Preferences
/System/Library/Printers
/Library/Printers
~/Library/Printers

...and all permissions repaired. Now if I open Print Center, the printer list is still empty, none of the old printers show up (neighter do they in the CUPS interface).

Where are these settings actually stored? What was affected by the reset? Would it be wise to copy over also the CUPS host directories, PrinterNotifications etc?

Any ideas appreciated!

How many printers are we talking about here? It might just be easier to re-enter them. Resetting the printer system flushes out everything.

In numbers not over ten, but the printers are at different locations and organizations and getting all the info together would be quite a hassle. Since I've got a recent backup of all the files, it would be best to just restore the former status quo. Never thought this could be so tricky...

Is anyone able to spotlight-search also all hidden and system files and could determine at which other places any info on a printer in "~/Library/Printers" is stored? There must be something I'm missing... Anyone really understands the OS 10.4 printing system?
