am running a mac mini (2gig intel core2 duo, 2 gig ram). using a bluetooth mouse (kensington), and apple's bluetooth keyboard.

my mac would NEVER sleep; i would click sleep, and it would ALWAYS wake up about 20 minutes later.

recently, i used an app ("iwannasleep") and, when i set it for at least 20 minutes, my mac would stay asleep (until, of course, i woke it).

this was a great discovery...but, broken for some reason with the 10.5.5 update. my mac now wakes up, again, about 20 minutes after being put to sleep.

any thoughts anyone? anyone else have sleep issues like this??

You've probably already done this, but have you checked to make sure your setting for sleep mode haven't been changed? Could the update have reset some of your settings?

Try turning off the bluetooth mouse and keyboard in case it's waking the Mac up.

not sure what the deal is, time for me to talk to apple.
however, i did an archive & install, & my sleep 'trick' is working.
still won't stay asleep if i click on 'sleep' in the menu.

so i shut off my keyboard (removed batteries), clicked on 'sleep', shut off my mouse.
my mac mini STILL woke itself up after 18 minutes (the usual length of time).
hardware issue? ah well, at least with a sleep timer app i can sleep my mac...

What do you have connected to the mini?

Do you run any programs that may run a cron job?

I don't understand how software would keep it asleep if it's a hardware issue... what external devices are plugged in?

i am thinking it's something like the bluetooth module itself (in the mini);
externally, a usb audio interface, a printer. some turned-off firewire drives...

What happens if you unplug all the external devices like the firewire drives, printer and audio interface.

all devices unplugged...and wake in 18 minutes, as usual.

Try closing/uninstalling the iStat widget.

Not sure what that EIR not supported message means.

Could it have something to do with an infrared device?

OK, look at this line

Sep 19 08:54:45 floydmac synkd[50]: SchedulerRunner is running
You're synchronizing something which either coincidentally pops up when the Mac wakes up or is waking it up.

have no idea what's running; am deleting my backup app ("synk") and associated files, as a test...

found this on a german site (googled "schedulerrunner"), forgive the altavista translation (and thanx for hanging in with this!):

"I do not have notion, where I the “SchedulerRunner” - “synkd monitor server “and “synkd status server " finds, in order it to trashen.
THANK YOU! edit: I believe (hold wood) I hab's found: any launcher file and something in application the support. I cannot say you at all, I am how glad! Again cordial thanks!"

deleting 'synk' unsurprisingly made no difference. i can't imagine what's waking this mac, especially after an archive & install..

ah well...

Very strange. There was a note in the list of 10.5.5 fixes that said it would fix random waking up.

Googling for kernel[0]: EIR is not supported gives me this thread, this thread and this thread.

i dsabled 'smartreporter", but no difference. so...just reset the smu, and trying that...

edit: and no difference. 18 minutes after clicking on sleep, the mac wakes.

am giving up for now; at least i can sleep my mac with a timer program (which beats the old method of shutting it down all the time)!
thanks for helping seanc..

Do you have another user on that machine? If not, make one and see if the sleep issue is persistent.

so basically, i turned off "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer"...and my mac sleeps. and sleeps.
i have to wake it from the power button, but at least i can do that.
(i think my bluetooth module is the culprit)

Since I upgraded to 10.5.5, my mac pro will not sleep on its own. I have to use the menu to tell it to sleep. Didn't have this problem prior to this update. Anyone else?

My MacMini does the exact same thing..wakes itself up after being put to sleep. Onlly mine does it even faster, 6 minutes. And I have nothing like the scheduler thing that was discussed earlier:
18.10.08 04.59.26 kernel System Sleep
18.10.08 05.05.57 kernel System Wake
18.10.08 05.05.57 kernel EIR is not supported.
18.10.08 05.05.57 kernel State change timeout, state is 7
18.10.08 05.05.54 configd[15] setting hostname to "Macintosh-2.local"

I will try to disable the bluetooth wake up function, but if that works I am starting to think that it may be reacting to other BT devices. Did a search and found my neighbour's iMac..and I have a PS3..but it is switched off most of the time when my mac is "sleeping"..

Anyone found any other fixes..not that using the power button is a big hassle, it wasn't meant to be like this

well, again, i use the app "i wanna sleep"; i set it for 20 minutes, it puts my mini to sleep, and it stays asleep until i wake it from the keyboard... a nuisance, but workable.
