In some beta versions of osx there was an option that instead of minimizing a window to the dock you could scale the window in place. Is there any option to do this with leopard?

WindowShade X http://unsanity.com/haxies/wsx

I *strongly* recommend avoiding Unsanity Haxies, as they rely on the APE extension, which is a system hack that WILL cause problems at some point if not kept diligently up-to-date.

You will need to verify before any system update/upgrade that Unsanity's APE will still work.

For example, (tens of) thousands of users who had Logitech mouse drivers installed in 10.4 had their system made unbootable when they upgraded to 10.5 Leopard.

Search this forum for lively and lengthy discussions of Haxies.

On the other hand, lots of people use haxies and have no problems. Analogika's example is pretty much the only significant problem APE has ever created, and that was because Logitech secretly installed an old version of APE with no updater.

But yes, any system modification has the potential to cause problems. I'm just saying that I don't believe APE is especially dangerous.

It's not more dangerous than any other system modification.

But it's a system modification, which means it's inherently dangerous, innately a headache and requires attention and maintenence in order not to cause problems at some point.

I have used Windowshade since OSX 10.1, never had a problem. Couldn't live without it!

Surely this is possible through some plist tweaking? I don't imagine they removed the guts of the Scale effect from the system. That'd be a far better option than using APE.

Something like:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.Dock mineffect suck
Not sure if that still works, so try it at your own risk.

... you could scale the window IN PLACE.
Cipher fails.

And changing the minimize effect is a simple popup menu in (Apple)-->System Preferences-->Dock.

Double fail.

Ah well, that's what I get for skim-reading.

Congratulations, do you feel better about yourself?
