Help!

I updated with the Security Update 2008-007 today. Then the Finder started wigging out. Each time I tried to do anything in the Finder, it would restart itself. So I shutdown. I waited about 5 minutes then restarted.

Now, all it does is start up to the bright, light blue screen and hang. Nothing is happening.

I've force restarted, via the power button, and still hangs at the same spot.

Help!

Not a terribly unusual problem after Software Update fiddles with system files.. Your only solution is to reinstall OS X. First try an archive/install.

No, first things first.

1.) Check if a restart in safe mode (or whatever it's called) works
2.) Boot in verbose mode to find out where it's hanging
3.) Boot from another partition (could also be the installer DVD) and run Disk Utility to make sure it's not permissions problem or partition/catalog damage
4.) Download the combo updater and install that

Only once you have exhausted all those options you should consider an A&I.

Got the 007 update. Loaded it while working in Photoshop. Fonts began dissapearing before required restart. Decided to close all and restart to activate update.

Hung on blue screen. OS did not load. Popped in the OS install disk and ran Disk Utility. All was good, Drive recognized and intact.

Took it to Genius Bar. Was told to do an archive and install of the OS. Also, said mine was not the first instance of this problem. All is well now. Just have to rebuild preferences.

Scared me for a bit.
