I am running an OS X Server on a Mac Mini and had nothing but pleasurable experience with it (once I passed the config part). Not that config part was any bad but it was a little bit.. hmm.. poor documented? Just a little bit. Other that that Mac Mini with proper external cooling rocks under Leopard Server. Very energy saving, low down time, 24/7 workhorse. Time Machine backed up FW RAID1 drive set... I mean simply perfect.

Anyhow, after trying a new Sun CommSuite 6 under Solaris I want to put it in production environment but I am somewhat hesitant of doing so as it will leave flawless Mac Mini without work. Not to mention a copy of X Server will be back on the shelf gathering dust.

So my question is what do you guys run in your home, work, business as your server(s)? What kind of collaboration package do you use (email, calendar, file sharing)? Are you up for latest and cutting edge or kind of "if it works don't fix it" guys? Since Sun is free and blooming I am tempted to try it and therefore need some opinions as of how things are on your end. Thanks

I run Ubuntu, FreeBSD, Redhat/CentOS, Courier and Cyrus IMAP, Apple Calendar Server, Netatalk and SSH for file sharing. We run an older version of Solaris at work as well.

What do you think of zimbra? http://www.zimbra.com

Also, you could run Sun CommSuite 6 on your Mac using VMware, assuming the mini is a newer X86 machine. I doubt I'd do this for actual production but you could have a test version to play with. Use the mini to test backup and recovery, bulk data manipulation scripts, hunt bugs and troubleshoot using a clone without taking your real server down, etc.
You can take the dude out of So Cal, but you can't take the dude outta the dude, dude!

The Mac lacks a VM Server solution right now, which is what makes recommending running a server in a VM difficult to recommend. Zimbra is great for small business. My only two problems with it last I checked was that it scales poorly, and it integrates with existing mail environments poorly.
