Sometimes it's good to be able to search out various prefs etc. in the Library (both at root and in accounts), but I can't seem to get it to do so (on all three of the machines I have access to, all running OSX 10.5.5).

Anybody else have this problem, and any fixes?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

By default system files are not shown since this would clutter the results.

To include them click the plus in a circle that lets you add additional search criteria. In the criteria popup select "Other..." and find "System files" in the list and select that. You may want to also check "In menu" so that it is always in the criteria popup so that you can add this more easily in the future. Then set the "System files" criterium to "included" and they will be shown in the search results.

Spotlight will only search a library if I choose Show Results and then actually select it. Otherwise, I guess it's excluded by default.

Thanks for the pointers, much appreciated.

TETENAL: works nicely, though it'd be good to always search in the system files (for me, it wouldn't be cluttered, as I know where most things are and only use spotlight for the really esoteric stuff, like hidden apps).

Big Mac: I'm not sure exactly what you mean here. Where do I see "Show Results"? fyi; I invoke a search in the Finder via a command-f, and search in that window, I don't use the spotlight menu bar icon, but I didn't see "Show Results" there either, but that could just my unfamiliarity with that functionality. Could you elaborate?

Cheers!

Chas
