Hello guys,

I goggled for answers but can't find any.

I'm looking for a way that students at the lab cannot drag and drop (copying) a quicktime movie found on Desktop. Yes, they can play/view the movie clip but I do not want them to copy it into their USB.

Is there a way? Like using Terminal? I tried to look for 3rd Party software but couldn't find a good one?

Please advise and thank you for your patience.

Thanks.

If they can read the file, then they can copy the data. There is a trick with bundles (such as applications), but that does not work with single files.

Use an old computer without USB ports !!

And read only opticals.

Also no internet / LAN access.

Or firewire etc ports

Create an image file > 20gb in size. (For example)

Password protect the file, use Disk Utility. (Not sure if this stops embedded file being copied w/o p/w)

Embed it in another website ?

Not youtube however.

Block access to USB ports. Electronically or physically.

Keylog ?

Best solution probably use workstations / monitors only for viewing ( with no ports of any kind)

Copy it to VHS / DVD in a locked box, and play it on a normal TV ?

Have a computer, if iMac, behind a locked fume cupboard window, and only mouse plugged in for control, no keyboard.

Have a big spike that comes up through the seat if copying is attempted.

You could disable the USB ports by removing “System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext” from the /System/Library/Extensions directory. This will still allow all mice, keyboards and printers to function properly.

Needless to say I would keep a copy of such file just in case…
