Under my main user login I am unable to auto update any software (other than Apple Software Updater). If I attempt to update through direct, the update downloads as normal, I am prompted to "Install and Relaunch" as normal, and then I am met by an error that reads:
"Application X does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, then ask your system administrator for help."
I have been using this user for many years and across many migrations.
I repair my permission and run system maintenance regularly
If I log in as another user on the same machine with admin status the problem goes away.
I booted from the Leopard install DVD and reset my user and root password twice.
I degraded the Admin status of the troubled user, logged out, logged back in and re-introduced Admin status to that user.
I have had this issue for a number of years, there seems to be no noticeable issues. Sometimes I think there are some "sharing issues" with this particular machine like I could never get it to share a printer.
I would really like to get rid of this issue once and for all and all thoughts appreciated.
