I'd like to remap a key on my keyboard. I have a French Apple keyboard and I'd like to change the § symbol to instead bring up the | - thats the pipe symbol.

Does anyone know how?

I once tried to alter keyboard layouts. It never worked for me. I finally gave up.

There are apps that will take an existing keyboard layout, then you can change the mapping, save it and reboot. It supposedly works, but it never did for me. I forgot which app I used though.

I had a look at Ukelele but it seemed too complicated. Surprised that this isn't easier.

Mattyb, I am sorry not to have an answer, and have a question. What symbols are under the Delete key? I have a back slash and a pipe. I love languages and speak a few, so I wonder what symbols a French keyboard would need to assign to this key, which in the US version has two basic programming symbols.

(I'm sure know how to insert pipes in the Character Palette in the International Preference. I know it's a major pain if you have to insert many pipes.)

To get the pipe symbol its ALT+SHIFT+L, can't remember what backslash is. BTW to get the numbers on a French keyboard you need to hit shift and then choose 6 for example.
