okay so i let my friend borrow my leopard dvd upgrade disk thinking he would be responsible with it but when he gave it back to me it was totally scratched. i no it sucks to be me. Before i gave it to him i ripped the dvd to my external drive. however i didnt use the disk utility. i have all the info that was on that disk in a folder, so i basically have a copy of the disk. Ready for the next bummer.. my hard drive failed and i had to replace it and the only start up disks that i had were the old ones from tiger. I would like to run leopard again and i really dont feel like paying for a new disk. is there a way i can either get disk utility to make a copy of the folder that i have so i can use it to run leopard or is there a way i can just run it from the external drive as it is.. thanks for ur time guys.. im kinda going crazy over here lol.. i rather not make my friend buy me a new one but if thats the case so be it.

HOW did you make that copy ?
"Ripping" is quite vague, and is commonly not used to refer to data disk backups.

The simplest solution would be to ask your friend to buy a new disk, since you're in such a bind now.
This might be testing your friendship, but it can be a positive experience as well. Depending on his reaction, you might not want to call him a "friend" in the future.

You lent a friend your installation disc to illegally install on their Apple ?

I'm glad to see that you feel your up to the challenge of being a dick on the internet, I assume that if you were to so much as open your mouth in a public setting people would just laugh with pity. I appreciate the help from the first guy, as for MacNNUK, you can suck a fat, hairy one for all I care. How's my grammar now you british ****

You have 3 options:

1. Keep your scratched disc and download a working copy off of BitTorrent. This is one of those times where it's perfectly legal for you to download the media. Hopefully you've kept your Proof of Purchase coupons incase your ISP inquires.

2. Call Apple (or check online, though I don't know where) and you can mail in your DVD with a Proof of Purchase coupon and they'll replace your DVD. $20 to replace media.

3. This option only works some of the time, it depends on who's working there. Sign up for a reservation at an Apple Store for the Genius Bar. Take you box and disc and explain that it got scratched and you don't know how. They'll either take your box and disc and just give you a brand new copy of Leopard, or, they'll do option 2 for you.

Nope. I am currently enrolled in medical school so I have the brains. I just didn't realize how formal this forum is. I'm just happy to show you that I am some what smart. But on a serious note, try not to be an ass when someone is looking for help. Oh and for the record, I purchased the family edition with 5 installs so what I did is perfectly legal. I've wasted too much time debating with you, I think you should find a girl or something else to take up some of your excess free time. But your teeth are probably so bad you'll have trouble doing so.

Lighten up. You're the only one I see hurling insults. MacNNUK poked a little fun at you, but you've taken it much farther and are risking ban.

Well, no, the family pack is for family members living in the same household. It doesn't extend to friends.

Hey MacNNUK, I got your PM but can't respond because you have incoming PMs blocked. Not very sporting of you, though I'm not taking personal offense to it or anything. If you're going to send PMs you should probably accept responses. Just my opinion, of course.

Cheers.
