10.4.1 Finder windows randomly closing and reloading

Did a Software Update this morning on a G4 Power Mac and ever since it has been acting weird. While in any application, the finder opens and closes windows randomly. I've tried the Disk Utility from the system and the Disk Utility on the 10.4 DVD and nothing has worked. I am now reloading the system back to 10.4 and will possibly do an additional software update tomorrow.

Any suggestions or has anyone had this problem before and fixed it?

do you mean 10.4.11? try going to apple's site, and downloading the 10.4.11 combo update...and running that.
