We have a G5 Server running the Server version of 10.4.x OSX

We're not using the Software Update Server. This is a problem with the normal Software Update that is accessed from the Apple Menu.

It find the updates fine, and we get all the way to "Instal" after Selecting the Destination and "Installation Type". When we click the "Install" button to begin the install, nothing happens. No disk activity, no processor activity. Just a grayed out Install button and no action. (no matter how long I leave it there.)

Here's a link to what to what it looks like:

It's not just the security update, but any update.

I've also downloaded the packages directly from apple and then tried installing from the package. Still craps out a the "Install" portion of the process.

It's not frozen, it's just not doing anything. I can use the "Go Back" button to back out of the process, not that that helps.

Probably, your system does not need that particular update. What other updates have you tried that failed?

Steve
Guess I finally got that fifth star!

As I mentioned, these are all updates that show up when the Software Update is run. (I'm assuming that Software Update knows which updates are needed.) They did not install from the Software Update, so I downloaded them to see if they would work manually.

No love there either way. I did open the Installer log and see the following:

Hello.
Had the exact same problem but I was running 10.4.11 on a Powerbook G4
Solved it by downgrading to 10.4.2 (since that were the systemdiscs i had) from the system install discs.
Then I upgraded to 10.4.11. Took me about six or seven gos on the software update until the system was up to date.
Now everything is good again.

So you know.
