Whilst amending screensavers choices in prefs pane, I managed to freeze my iMac when screen saver hot corner used, or test.
Only way to get out of it was to power off, then on.
After some reading this and other apple.com forums, and trying various remedies, I found one that worked.
Basically I highlighted recently modified folders in library and preferences, and pictures.
After restoring from this mornings Time Machine save, (it's now teatime) I was able to clear the fault, after many restarts and near panic.
What the problem was, I think, was that one of the screen saver options was to use iPhoto album, I deleted the iPhoto album, and selected my usual digital clock screensaver (Big Time)
However, in playing around, I had also changed the display style from left icon (slideshow) to right icon (mosaic).
Whilst in screensaver iPhoto mode.
Or in this mode, I did a bit of both.
Whilst in near freeze mode, I did not get text telling me what each icon was.
To cut a long story short(ish) I think the main problem was selecting mosaic display style, then probably deleting iPhoto album, so with no iPhoto album or pics available it froze, but only after screensaver actioned, either by hot corner, or test mode.
This I could do, whilst in freeze mode, without selecting iPhoto album !
Once corrected by restoring from Time Machine, I could NOT select this mosaic mode when not in iPhoto screensaver choice.
Restoring from Time Machine was again my saviour.
I have since deleted the iPhoto album and last import without causing screensaver to freeze, by not being in iPhoto mode on screensaver when I deleted iPhoto items.
The strange thing was, whilst in restart with freeze mode, my iMac started up very, very quickly, to desktop, and yes, I did power down completely between each restart.
So perhaps loading up screensavers slows down OS10 ?
