Videos played through either Safari or FireFox will play the audio just fine, but solid green for the video. I've tried a number of movie trailers on Apple's QuickTime site and they all show up the same way. I've re-installed both QuickTime and 10.5.6 and the problem persists. I've also got Flip4Mac and Perian installed and updated.

Any ideas?

Create a new user on your system and see if the problem occurs under a different user.

The problem doesn't occur in other user accounts, so it is something confined to my account. Now, how do I go about fixing it? I'd rather not copy gigabytes of data just to fix a problem with QuickTime.

Do you have a ~/Library/Component/ or ~/Library/QuickTime/ folder in your home folder? Did you try trashing the QuickTime preferences?

Solved the problem last night. It was the CanonH264Dec.component.
