Hi, I am working overseas and access the web via the local telephone company. The default internet route for international messages is through Nairobi, Kenya which is painfully slow. If I can change the default on my MacBook to Paris or Maldives I can reach almost 1mb. Is there a way to do this using OS X 10.5 or Safari Beta 4? Thanks, alan

What do you mean by "default internet route" ?
Are you talking about dialup ?

You can change the dialup telephone number in System Preferences - Network.

However, I don't really think you'd wanna use dialup via a long-distance or overseas call...

Hi again. I am using a broadband service provided by the local tel company in Mauritius. Inside the country it is quite fast. However, when I access points or download from sites outside the country the system appears to route through a server in Nairobi -- this shows up while running www.speedtest.net. There are many sites which test out much more quickly and some can be found in the Maldives and in Paris. How can I establish the preferred servers that I wish to use for traffic outside Mauritius?

You have no choice over how the broadband provider is routing their traffic.

The one thing you could try is to use OpenDNS DNS servers, maybe that will speed up things a bit.
You could also try HotSpot Shield, but I doubt it will give you a speed advantage.

Unless you have a VPN, like Turtle said, you are stuck with how your ISP chooses to route your traffic.
