This shouldn't be, right? I'm a composer and I use Cubase, and a HUGE library of instrument samples, and this is just killing my RAM usage. It seems that the computer is slow because of this. I just reinstalled OSX

You're good. Spotlight is only using about 13.5 MB of RAM. The virtual memory usage is nothing to be concerned about. It's like imaginary memory.

So is that what that whopping 4GB sleepimage file is for? I remember hearing somewhere that it was backup RAM, but I was under the impression that if my Actual RAM ran out, THEN it taps into the virtual, I guess I had it wrong though. So this will have no effect on my VST plugins?

No. Sleepimage is the file where your RAM content is written to before your Mac goes to sleep. That way if you run out of battery (or you remove your battery to swap it for another one) your Mac will be able to restore the RAM content and continue to work as if nothing had happened.

Sleepimage has nothing to do with virtual memory. That's in /private/var/vm/swapfileXYZ.
