You mean PPC (PowerPC).

Every Mac mini is capable of running Leopard OS X 10.5.x.

10.5.x will be the last version of the OS to run on the Mac mini. Upgrade the RAM though to the full 1GB.

This is absolutely vital. 512Mb is the minimum requirement for Leopard, however I wouldn't want to run it on any mac with that level of RAM let alone a slowish G4.

I agree with this. My PPC PowerBook G4 is only 1GHz CPU with 512Mb and it runs awfully slow with Leopard installed. My desktop is twice as fast so it has no problem with Leopard but your friend might not be too happy with Leopard on their Mac mini.

My PowerBook ran 10.4 Tiger perfectly fine so if you can get a copy of Tiger that might be the way to go...or maybe it's time for your friend to upgrade his/her computer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, folks, but I'm pretty sure 2GB of RAM fit and work in that machine (regardless of what Apple says).

2GB PC-2700 DDR DIMMs are not that easy to find anymore. Especially non-ECC. And they're expensive too. Too expensive to just buy for the sake of trying.

You're right, but as someone stated, I think the sticks are pretty pricey. Crucial has the 1GB stick for $42.99.
