For about a week now, my computer won't boot into OSX. It does the chime, but the apple logo never comes up. It just stays on the gray screen, and my fans begin to go into overdrive. I've tried booting from CD with an OSX disc, but it's not working. Any suggestions on getting my computer reformatted/operational? Thanks for any help.

Have you held the C key while trying to boot from the disc? What if you hold the option key, can you get to the OS loader?

Tried both, and it won't boot from CD. I'm worried my logic board is fried.

I unplugged my firewire drive, and the computer booted up. Plugged the firewire drive into my Mac Pro, and all was fine. Plugged it back into my MacBook, and it froze. I guess my firewire card is shot. Much easier to digest than a fried logic board.

Good deduction. It's a good idea to remember to disconnect all non-essential peripherals when troubleshooting a severe start up problem like that one.

It could be that your FireWire card is shot, but it could also just mean that there's something about the particular hard drive you have that the MacBook's FireWire card isn't agreeing with (or, it could even be a software problem, if the formatting of the drive is messed up enough to confuse the bootloader). I would try connecting a different FireWire device to it just to make sure.
