Hi everyone,

I've been having a problem with what i thought could have been the display. As i moved the mouse around I would get some sorta of distortion and slight shifting in lines and texts on the screen and slight blurs. I called apple care and the solution at this point (because after making a test user and logging in on that, this problem did not occur) is to reinstall my operating system without erasing all of my other data and fies, which I was really hoping for because I have final cut studio and CS3 and Logic pro that most probably know how long that takes to install.

Now my question is, If I got an OS-X leopard disc, can I install that the same way or will I have to back up all of my files on an external, install the new operation system, and then reinstall applications and file? Please help and thanks in advance!

The Archive and Install option preserves users, applications and network settings but provides a fresh OS X system. This is probably what they were referencing.

You should always have a backup, but no you don't technically have to backup all files and applications then restore them. Archive-Install preserves those.

Just a warning, you may have to reinstall CS3 due to the amount of files it installs all over the system. Logic Pro may or may not have to be reinstalled though.

Thank you both! I for the time being I will just reinstall my current OS-X 10.4.

I will post how it goes.
