Hey guys,

Your probably fed up with people asking this, although I did do a search and can't find much on this, but I was wondering... with the new OSX coming out soon I wondered whether I should save up and get a new macbook pro or whether osx snow leopard will speed up my current macbook pro.

The MBP I have is now getting old, and although I would like to get a brand new unibody MBP (they look so much better) I can't really afford it at the moment. So I was wondering if I updated the operating system to Snow Leopard whether I would see a performance increase, or should I just wait until I can afford a new MBP.

I'm new to using mac, bought a second hand MBP from a friend (wasn't sure if I would like mac, but I love it), but when on windows you always had to upgrade the hardware (ram) to upgrade the os or in my experience it would make the thing slow down. Is this the same with OSX?

I've read a lot of posts that say Snow Leopard is fast because it's written in 64bit, however as far as I can tell my MBP is only 32bit, does this mean I can't run snow leopard, or wont get any benefit from installing it?

Look forward to reading your opinions

cheers guys + gals

From your signature I see that your MBP is only a Core Duo. The Core Duo is 32-bit only; subsequent MBP revisions used the Core 2 Duo, a 64-bit processor (with dual cores, like the CD).

You would need a 64-bit processor to take real advantage of SL. However, SL is supposed to be more streamlined than Leopard, so you'd probably see at least some improvements.
