I installed the 10.5.8 on my 1Ghz Powerbook G4 Titanium with 1GB RAM and I was a happy camper until today when I opened garageband and plugged in my guitar into the line in port to find out it was recording from the internal microphone. So I went to: System Preferences - Audio. To find that since the update my line in port had disappeared and I am unable to use, or select it (as it's not there). Then I looked in the system profiler and it is seen under audio:

Built-in Sound Card:

CODEC: Texas Instruments TAS3004
Sample Rate: 44.1 KHz
Number of Inputs: 2
Number of Outputs: 2
Devices:
Input:
Type: Line Level Input
Input:
Type: Internal Microphone
Output:
Type: Headphones
Output:
Type: Internal Speaker

As you can see it's detected! I don't exactly have cash rolling around to buy a new mac, and this is my main mac so I really need that port working as I won't be able to do any recording until it's fixed! This is making me very angry.

Apple are dropping PPC in 10.6 due for release next week and I need my PPC mac as I use classic for old mac games and software plus other 3D stuff. Apple better fix this issue before they drop support!

PLEASE ADVICE ME ON HOW TO FIX THIS! I ALSO DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR A FULL BACKUP SO WOULD NEED A FIX FOR THIS INSTALL IF POSSIBLE! ALTHOUGH I DO HAVE A FEW SPARE GB LEFT!

Try the combo update of 10.5.8 if you haven't already.

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update

Sometimes doing a combo update versus doing an update through Software Update helps fix the issues.

In any case, you should invest ~$100 in an external harddrive. 10.5 makes it super easy to make backups, all you need to do is plug it in.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
